- The main responsibilities of a Governor
- As part of a team: Setting the strategic direction of the school; Holding the leadership to account for the performance of the school; Making sure that resources are used well and that money is well spent.
- Requirements
- There are no specific qualifications for the role of governor. You just need the right attitude, enthusiasm, and time to devote to the role.
- Specific requirements for this school
-
We welcome all applications, particularly from those with knowledge or skills which would suit working within our Resources sub-committee. This sub-committee provides strategic oversight of the costs, budget, and resources required to run our school. Previous governorship / education experience is not required - training will be provided to the successful applicant.
- Day and times of most meetings
-
- The Full Governing body meets up to twice a term (usually on Tuesdays starting 6pm in school). These meetings last approximately two hours;
- The two sub-committees (Resources, and Standards & Curriculum) meet once a term (usually on Tuesdays starting 6pm in school) and meetings last approximately 1 hour. Governors usually become active on one sub-committee, although for the first year of governorship we recommend attending both to aid understanding of the school;
- In addition to attendance at meetings, duties will include preparing for meetings (for example by reading documents and drawing up questions); and visiting the school once a term during the school day at a mutually convenient time then writing up observations, usually in line with the School Improvement Plan.
- The time commitment
- Approximately 10 days per year spent attending meetings, visiting the school from time-to-time and undertaking relevant training.
